Treatment of the Gingiva

The branch of dentistry called periodontology deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of gum diseases. Periodontal diseases, defined as gingival diseases, are inflammatory diseases that also affect the gums and bone tissues that support the teeth. These types of diseases respond easily and successfully to treatment when diagnosed at an early stage.

In healthy and hygienic mouths, the color of the gums should be light pink, non-bleeding, matte and firm. If a person has bleeding gums, this is a sign of gingivitis and disease. If precautions are not taken, the person may lose their teeth due to gingivitis, even if their teeth are not rotten.

Teeth cleaning (detertrage), Curettage (Deep gingival cleaning, Root surface cleaning, Closed surgical cleaning), Gibgivectomy (Gingival leveling) and Flap Operation (Gum surgery) are some of the gingival treatments and are the main ones.
